Who are we?
You can call us Miss Chiu and Chen Zi.
Miss Chiu is a messy right-brainer with a lot on her mind. She has a passion for art, enjoys various types of music, and likes to keep herself cultured.
Chen Zi is a lazy bum, an avid reader, and a better writer. She is intrigued by Korean popular culture and is in the process of learning the language.
What’s our story?
Miss Chiu started writing her opinions about life and current events on her private blog. Soon after, she began having various people approaching her in school to express their thoughts in response to her writings, and she was compelled to start a public blog which she named “Hong Dou“. She later invited her good friend, Chen Zi, to join her on Hong Dou.
What do you write about?
You’ll see that we write about Asian entertainment a lot, because we’re very in love with it. Miss Chiu writes about various other topics as well. Miss Chiu also tends to pull out life lessons from whatever she types (yes, even from Asian entertainment). It’s cheesy, but that’s how she is.
You can go to the side bar and click the categories you would like to read to filter out whatever you don’t care about. The categories will narrow down (as opposed to being really general categories) as the blog gets bigger.
But just to clarify, we do not write entertainment news. We merely just express our thoughts on them. So please do not rely on us for updates. Check out our Blogroll for some entertainment news links.
Why do you suck so much at writing?
Honestly, we’re not very scholarly in writing. Chen Zi has more experience with writing, but she doesn’t feel the need to write properly on a blog. On the other hand, Miss Chiu is an emotional, spur-of-the-moment type of person with a poor memory. She basically types whatever she thinks so she doesn’t forget it. She also has a small vocabulary and moderate grammar, so please forgive her.
What does Hong Dou mean?
It means “red bean” in Mandarin. There’s actually no reason behind the name, other than the fact that “hong” (literally means “red;” can mean “popular” in some contexts) and “dou dou” (slang for “pimples;” literally means “beans”) were Miss Chiu’s new Mandarin vocabulary words. And also that Miss Chiu is quite fond of red beans. They’re sweet and tasty. Maybe you’ll get that feeling from reading our blog.
Happy reading! 😀
